The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is the agency of the U.S. government formed in 1934 to regulate broadcast communications.
On March 12, 2010, Elmo appeared with FCC chairman Julius Genachowski at the Benefits of the National Broadband Plan for Children and Families event held at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. After waiting behind a barrier while Genachowski made a speech, Elmo, no longer able to contain his bladder, made his presence known to the audience. The two participated in an exchange about the FCC's efforts to increase internet speed in the U.S. and making it available to everyone.
