Fern is a talking plant that appears in Episode 3472 of Sesame Street. She is very kind, often peppering her dialogue with the phrase, "Pardon me."
Stinky the Stinkweed decides to revisit his old home in the park, only to discover that Fern now resides there. The two find that they can share the spot where they watch birds (Big Bird, specifically), enjoy the sun, and share the kids' water. Later, Carlo helps Fern so she can visit Stinky by replanting her in her own flowerpot.
The puppet would be used years later with different eyes in a couple of "Word of the Day" segments, helping teach the words "nature" (with Debra Messing) and "popular" (with Andy Cohen). She can also be seen during the season 46 end credit sequence, singing "Smarter, Stronger, Kinder" alongside Stinky and Stuckweed, and again in Episode 5418.
