SCENE 1 Oscar welcomes the viewer and shows off his great new invention: "Grouch earplugs." He's able to block out the pleasantries that he assumes Gordon and Susan are telling each other, when in reality the two are arguing about the important things they have to do today. Eventually, the couple makes up and figures out a compromise, and when Oscar's curiosity gets to him he removes the earplugs at the wrong time, hearing Gordon and Susan saying nice things before they leave.

Linda's friend, Ed (played by Ed Waterstreet) arrives, who is also deaf and uses sign language to speak with Linda. As Ed and Linda attempt to talk with each other using their hands, Bob observes the two having difficulty with Ed holding his luggage in-between messages and offers to help carry the suitcases.

SCENE 3 Oscar is amazed when he finds a crummy, discarded chair situated next to his trash can and needs some help to get it into his home. He asks Gordon and Susan to do so, but they find it's too big to fit in the can's opening. Oscar tells them to lift the chair up high then let it drop to the ground. This smashes the chair to pieces, and Oscar simply collects the individual parts that now fit in the can.

SCENE 6 Big Bird continues to echo Bob's every action, reading newspapers in the yard and saying the same thing at the same time. Unbeknownst to each other, both of them are now annoyed about doing the same thing the other person does and Big Bird eventually admits it to Bob. He asks if it's okay to stop the game (having already played for three hours), which causes Bob to break down crying. As Big Bird comforts him, Susan announces the sponsors.
