Cheerios, a popular breakfast cereal made by General Mills, has featured the Muppets several times.

1979[]

In 1979, Cheerios promoted The Muppet Movie with a series of trading cards printed on the back of the box. There were 12 cards in all, printed in four sets of three. There was also a mail-in offer for a small poster of the Muppet cast.

Kermit the Frog also appeared in a Cheerios commercial to promote the movie.[1]

1983[]

From June to August 1983, Cheerios promoted Muppet Magazine, offering a half-price subscription for three dollars.[2] A series of four stickers was offered as an in-box premium, featuring photos of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and Gonzo in their roles as magazine editors.

1984[]

1994[]

In 1994, Cheerios featured the Muppet Workshop toys. Blank Whatnot faces were printed on the back of the box, with parts that could be cut out and arranged to make various Muppet monster faces.

1995[]

In 1995, an illustrated box cover takeover by the Muppets tied in with the in-box light switch cover prize.

Kermit the Frog appeared in a television advertisement for the tie-in, reacting to the announcements from a beach, then in space.

1996[]

In 1996, Cheerios offered a Muppet Treasure Island T-shirt as a mail-in premium. The T-shirt featured an illustration of Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and Rizzo the Rat hanging from the crow's nest. Two glitter tattoos were included as a premium.
