Hello Kitty is a franchise produced by the Japanese company Sanrio. She was designed in the 1970s by Yuko Shimizu as a white cat with a bow in her hair.

In 2010, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Sanrio, and the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street, a collaboration between Sesame Workshop and Sanrio was announced which led to a collection of 160 goods being released in 2011 featuring Kitty White, and various Sesame Street characters interacting with each other. The items were only available for purchase in Japan.[1]
