The Matrix is a 1999 science fiction film starring Keanu Reeves that spawned a number of sequels and other spin-off media. Its use of slow-motion, spinning camera angles, and "bullet time" effects influenced a number of action movies that followed, and have been parodied nearly as often.

Using themes and tropes found in other sci-fi movies, one sequence involves Link Hogthrob attempting to escape from the Chicken People by delivering a round-house kick while wearing sunglasses. The action is spread over four comic panels stylized in a way that suggests the scene plays out in slow motion.
