Mushmellon
DEBUT 1955

Mushmellon was a character from Sam and Friends. He is a yellow monster-type creature who was built in June 1955.[1]

Mushmellon was born on the Melonesian Island of Mush. He was soon recognized for his talent for bouncing, working alongside Harry the Hipster at a jazz club as a bouncer. He would then work with Icky Gunk on his Alaskan dog sledding team under a different name, Mel. When bouncing across the snow, Icky would order him to "Mush, Mel, on!", christening him with a new name.[2]

Mushmellon beat out Kermit in a popularity poll done in Washington, D.C. during the Sam and Friends run. The Evening Star reported: "The contest to decide the most popular muppet (sic) in which 6,000 votes were cast by mail moved Sam into second place behind Yorick. Mushmellon came in third, followed closely by Kermit."[3]
