Ted Ross

Ted Ross (1934-2002) was an actor best known for playing the lion in the Broadway and film versions of The Wiz.

In 1981, he appeared on Sesame Street as Mr. Jenkins in Episode 1586.

Ross played chauffeur Bitterman in Arthur and Arthur 2: On the Rocks (with Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli). Other films include Ragtime (with Jeff Daniels and Mary Steenburgen), Police Academy (with Kim Cattrall and George Gaynes), and The Fisher King (with Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges). Broadway shows included Purlie (with Sherman Hemsley, whom he also understudied) and Raisin (the musical version of A Raisin in the Sun, with Debbie Allen). On TV, he played the dean of Hillman College on The Cosby Show (once) and A Different World (twice) and guest starred on The Jeffersons, Benson, and 227.
