Filfil is a shaggy purple monster from Alam Simsim, the Egyptian co-production of Sesame Street. His name translates to "Pepper".[1]

The design of the character was used as the basis for Murray Monster, who debuted on Sesame Street in 2005. On set, the nameless character was called "FilFil", until being renamed Murray in 2007.

Sesame Workshop description

Filfil is “Mr. Know-it-all.” He is an ageless character who has all of the answers even though he may not know what the questions are. Though very intelligent, his enthusiasm and eagerness to help may sometimes cloud his judgment and cause him to create a mess of any given situation. His primary characteristic is that he genuinely wants to help. He truly believes he knows exactly what is needed and where to go to get it—he’ll even take you there! Filfil has a ready-made solution for every problem and advice to offer whether you need it or not.
