- articles in question โ Buffy and Buffy Sainte-Marie
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation investigative series The Fifth Estate has just released a documentary based on Indigenous-led research into the ancestry of Buffy Sainte-Marie, concluding that she's Italian-English, and born in Massachusetts. Along with official records, Buffy herself changed her ancestry multiple time within one year, early in the career.

I presume the above link is visible outside of Canada, but if there's a geoblock, the reporter who produced the story was interviewed at length on the podcast CBC Front Burner. That, and there's a ton of news stories up here on the topic, but those are unlikely to go in as much depth about the archival sources consulted.
Whether or not Muppet Wiki makes changes to the article to reflect the ambiguity, you may want to lock the article. The documentary uses multiple clips from Sesame Street, in part because her uncle tried to refute her ancestry claims just before her debut on the series. -- Zanimum (talk) 22:53, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- At least one editor has made changes as you predicted, Nick. I made some adjustments to keep her heritage ambiguous and left a reply on their talk page explaining why their edits were reverted. I'll repeat some of that here.
- The way the Buffy and Buffy Sainte-Marie articles are written, it's explicitly demonstrated that she's playing a version of herself. I understand that the Indigenous Peoples community are hurt by the allegations made in the documentary, but the articles here aren't making any false statements.
- The articles in question have been protected from being edited for a limited time. Tackling the issue of addressing her heritage is more Wikipedia's territory. Muppet Wiki will continue to focus those articles as we do any other topic: their direct relation to the focus of this project. โScott (talk) 12:52, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
