Last night, I added Martin Scorsese to the wiki. In an offline admin discussion, Maddox pointed out that we had previously established a rule on the wiki that celebrities posing with walk-around characters wouldn't be covered on the wiki. See: Talk:Glee.
I think that's still a good rule to have because otherwise, as in the above example, celebrities bumping into walk-arounds in the general public or at a theme park would be included. I feel that Scorsese is a different situation as this was a publicity event hosted by Sesame Workshop in which celebrities were specifically invited.
In the case of Scorsese, he also has a celebrity reference, so it helps if we have some other reasoning to have a celebrity that fits this description on the wiki.
This post serves as an open discussion about the merits of this reasoning and to have something to point to for the future where other situations are called into question. —Scott (talk) 12:48, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with the talk surrounding what's said on the Glee page. I don't think allowing Scorsese will open the floodgates too much. - Shane (talk) 19:21, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- I think it can work as long as there is emphasis on the respective celebrity's page of the event's official nature. For example, adding something to Scorsese's page about the event being hosted by Sesame Workshop.
- Even if it's already noted on the event page, I think it's still helpful to note it on the celebrity's page. People who only view the celebrity's page will see the note and be able to clearly differentiate people like Martin Scorsese from people like Matthew Morrison, the latter of whom encountered an official walk-around but at a non-Sesame-hosted event.
- It'd also help avoid pages of celebrities who visit Sesame Place (or other Sesame theme parks) and posed with walk-arounds there. While yes, Sesame Place is a Sesame Workshop-sanctioned thing, the key difference is they weren't specifically invited by Sesame Workshop for whatever event.
- Looking around, Jane Seymour is in a similar situation. Her only connection is posing with walk-arounds, but it was at an official Henson-hosted event, so she's in the clear. - Maddox (talk) 01:01, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
