A few years ago, I brought up the photos on the walls in the "Dialing-for-Prizes Movie" sketch, specifically one I identified as Fanny Brice in "Baby Snooks" mode. (My post | Shane's | David's | Andrew's)
Now that there is a better quality version of this sketch floating around on YouTube, I just thought I'd bring this up again in case anyone else wants to take a possible crack at the other photos. In the meantime, I managed to peg another one down: the top photo at the right is Clark Gable, in promotion for the 1932 film Red Dust.
The other reason I'm posting about this is to park the following info here, as I'm not sure what to do with it: I now recognize the silent movie clip that Guy shows, which is a scene from Don't Park There! (but I am anyway, wocka wocka), a 1924 Hal Roach comedy starring Will Rogers. — Jesse (talk) 01:37, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
- Ooo, good catches! Maybe we can get some better screengrabs and share them on some "Golden Age of Cinema" subreddit or something? - Shane (talk) 02:20, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
- The source for that video is only 480x360 and YouTube applies its own deinterlacing filters, compression, and stretching, thus lowering the quality of the source. Here's a composite of two 720x480 screenshots that haven't been deinterlaced. If you're going to post on some golden age cinema forums for help, this might come in handy. —Scott (talk) 11:23, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
Another Juan down: the middle photo on the left side, right above Fanny, is John Barrymore as Don Juan (1926). We're halfway there! — Jesse (talk) 06:10, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks to Jesse's research and collage work, we now have John Barrymore. -- Andrew 21:21, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
On a not unrelated topic, I've wondered whether the presence of these pictures was the reason of the segments omission from Episode 0666 in Old School: Volume 2. While Don't Park There! (1924) probably falls into public domain, would it be a different story with the photographs? --Splurge (talk) 11:40, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
