Forums: Index > Article Content > Expansion to "Fred Calvert"?

Participation in the Muppet Wiki Forums requires a full understanding of the Rules and Etiquette.

I personally feel that the article the Wiki currently has for Fred Calvert and his work for "Sesame Street" could be expanded quite a bit, in terms of the filmography currently featured on his page. The biographical section is good, but it's the gallery showcasing his known inserts that could use a lot of expansion in my eyes. Despite producing dozens of films for the series, I notice that only two films produced by him are presented in that gallery, a letter "R" film and a Spanish film. Not even the songs they supplied animation for, like "Lowercase N"/"The Lonely N Song", I notice, despite the Steve Zuckerman page seemingly verifying their being produced by the studio. Not to mention that Calvert, his wife and son are listed as voice artists, but I don't see any inserts listed which they performed voices for. I really don't know if Andrew (who's been doing a very commendable job with his SS animator pages) or somebody else has plans to tackle Fred's output and expand that page, but in summation, I feel like the gallery could use quite a bit of expansion, if the "trusted source" guides reveal much more inserts that Calvert directed or produced. I hope I'm not sounding pushy on this matter, but do feel free to think this over if you'd like. —SqueakyCartWheel (talk) 22:23, 28 September 2022 (UTC)

If you've got sources for the information you'd like to add, by all means, do! —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 23:19, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
What Scott said. If you see omissions confirmed on the wiki, add them. For anything else, it waits until we find it or have time to dig through documents and confirm. That's how pages get expanded, either if someone does so from available info, or when we have time and ability to go through extra research. But we all have multiple wiki projects and real life commitments, so starting a forum thread doesn't actually help it happen (again, unless you fill in the gaps you already noticed), any more than the "why isn't blank episode guided yet" comments other editors leave. -- Andrew Emoji-droolAdminsig 03:30, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Alright, thanks! I've gotten ahead and added the information I've noticed to the respective pages. There are a few other inserts I wanted to add to the guide because I have a feeling they're his work based off on the similar sound effects and visual style ("Counting Demolition", "R Wizard", the three "Imagination" cartoons from season 2 or so, etc.), but I'll hold off on them for now until you folks have time to go through the documents to confirm, since those are nothing more than sneaking hunches, anyhoo. Good work! I wouldn't go by sound effects since studios shared libraries (that's why the Hanna-Barbera sfx or sounds from Jay Ward cartoons pop up frequently), and I don't know what you mean by imagination cartoons (but the Calvert article already notes he did the monolith segments, a much easier word to pin down in guides, if you feel like tracking down those). However, as it's easier to track down a specific labeled segment that matches what production documents use, you're right, "R Wizard" is Calvert's. ("Counting Demolition" doesn't even appear anywhere on the wiki, whatever it is, so that can't be checked; we can only check if we have production wordings or with the first/earliest known episode appearance.) -- Andrew Emoji-droolAdminsig 16:07, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
The "Counting Demolition" is a fan-name for the number animation with a cameo by Cookie Monster, first airing in Episode 0350. -- Tony latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 16:15, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
Yep, the cartoon Tony linked is the one I was thinking of. It's known as "Counting 1-20 (Destruction)" on the Season 3 segments page. The imagination cartoons are labelled "Imagination: Girl" (the one that ends with an offscreen voice telling the little girl, "Jeanie, go to bed!") and "Imagination Marko (zoo animals)" on the same page. A thousand pardons for not using the "official" titles used on those pages there. I totally understand your point on sound effects (I've seen many of the same H-B and Jay Ward effects Calvert used in a few other studios' segments as well), and duly noted. Nice to hear the R Wizard was Fred's doing as well, and I've gone ahead and added the two "Monolith" segments to the page. Still, I'm glad you like how it looks so far, Andrew! Thank you.SqueakyCartWheel (talk) 17:26, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

This cell image was previously on his page but no longer has a home. Is it worth keeping? —Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 11:34, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

While a cel isn't the best representation within a segment gallery, it's a pretty nice pic. The changes to the page resulted in the "I Beep Beep" pic being used twice (at top and in the gallery), so I'm going to swap the agua cel into it instead. -- Andrew Emoji-droolAdminsig 02:39, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Making another post here because there were a number of cartoon inserts listed on episode guides and segment pages where I think I've noticed a similar visual style to the ones we've already confirmed to be Calvert, so I'm making this post in hopes that the documents verify my suspicions. I won't be surprised if some of my theories are incorrect, but here are the ones I posit MAY be Calvert. Once again, confirmation would be duly appreciated here. If by chance any of these are from a different studio, I'll be happy to create an article for that other studio/director with those non-Calvert inserts.
