I'm only noticing now that several Sesame scripts featuring Big Jeffy spell his name "Big Jeffie" with an ie. Does the "Jeffy" naming appear in anything official, and does the scripts' spelling rule those examples out? I'll brace for cleanup work. — Jon (talk) 00:16, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

The album credits, when given, just lump him with Monotones, as does the 1979 style guide (no name, just "Fat Blue A.M.") These spelling variations happen as we know and script spellings (especially for actors or real kids) aren't always correct, but the fact that most of those scripts were by Jeff Moss would suggest that's how he spelled it (they're also all later street scenes though, so nothing to indicate how it was spelled in the seventies or early eighties). The 1995 CD release might include a booklet with lyrics. The Sesamestreet.org bit depends on what timeframe it was. If this was the late 2000s or thereabouts, there's a possibility that they could've referenced the Wiki for spelling, or just misspelled it. The only available captures of the former characters page from 2008-2011 don't include a Big Jeffy page. — Jon (talk) 01:19, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

I checked my '95 copy, and to my surprise the lyrics spell it as "Jeffie." Like the original release, Moss is given vocal credit as part of the Monotones. Moss also wrote the whole album (and was still around at that time), so that's another piece of evidence for a name change. -- Tony (talk) 01:54, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

I thought the website also spelled it as Jeffie, I guess I'm misremembering (or conflating it with the fact that, assuming my memory is right on that, they spelled Little Chrissy as "Little Chrissie"). I wonder if the confusion comes from the spelling of another Jeffy (that is how the album credits spelled that one, right?). --Minor muppetz (talk) 17:06, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

Michael, it's just that "Jeffy" is the more common spelling in general, so that's what fans used without widely available print listings for the spelling. I checked, 10th Anniversary Album also uses "Big Jeffie" in the "Four" printed lyrics (likely just reused for the 1995 album). So all of that is enough accumulated evidence to support a name change, with only SS.org (and we're not sure if it was after Muppet Wiki was fully established) to counter. -- Andrew 20:24, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

Looks like the evidence is overwhelming, so I'll go ahead and move. We can probably note any inconsistencies we find in a "Notes" section. I've also noticed (little) Jeffy from "I'm Going to Get My Hair Cut" is also spelt with an ie on record albums. Sesame’s YouTube upload uses the "y" spelling (probably referencing the Wiki), but that still may necessitate a page move too. — Jon (talk) 17:48, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
