Should we be tracking one-time Elmo's World references like Moms Mabley? Doesn't this technically go against our Notability policy? โ€” Jon latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 22:03, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

What part does it violate? The "Every click should give a reader more information than they had before they clicked" bit? I haven't been comfortable with that ideology for a long time. It's a good guideline, but I don't think it should be a strict policy. Otherwise we're violating that premise in somewhere between 30 and 40% of our articles. โ€”Scott latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 22:07, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
It's just one of the throwaway "stay tuned" jokes made during the TV portions of Elmo's World, which can literally reference anything (e.g. "Stay tuned for The Lion King starring Tiger Woods). A page like Moms Mabley which only notes that one reference and no other substantial info does not make for an interesting page. โ€” Jon latest?cb=20200820192427 (talk) 22:15, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm sort of mixed, and usually take it on a case by case basis. In general, I'm not in favor of making a page for every punny name used in an Elmo's World gag; there's a reference to fairly obscure character actor Dudley Digges in "Elmo's World: Dinosaurs." And there's actually some near miss connections that could fit for Moms Mabley. Let me tinker with it a little. -- Andrew Emoji-droolAdminsig 23:00, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Unrelated, we do need to remind newer editors that cutting and pasting text whole cloth from Wikipedia is discouraged, even as a start (it doesn't actually fall under the license to use, as I recall). That's partly why the page looks pointless. -- Andrew Emoji-droolAdminsig 23:03, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
Tinkering done. Connections spelled out and Wikipedia text revised. Still just the one reference, but now it doesn't feel like "Shouldn't we just link to Wikipedia?" (my own litmus test of whether a reference page is actually needed) and closer to a lot of other pages we have, where we try to put their careers in context of Muppet Wiki. -- Andrew Emoji-droolAdminsig 23:30, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
For the larger question of notability, again, I think it's case by case and what kind of page results. Touched by an Angel was originally just one reference, but Ken had amassed a massive connections list on Projects with Muppet cast connections, so it made sense to break out and combine (and one other brief reference has been found since). The play/movie Born Yesterday crops up at least twice in Elmo's World installments about birthdays or babies, so it's on my to-do list. But Born on the 4th of July doesn't feel like it needs a page (all the movie references on Elmo's World: Birthdays are Wikipedia links, and that seems appropriate for now). I would have *thought* Born Free was referenced somewhere beyond that line, but again, right now there's really nothing further that can be added that's not on Wikipedia
In Moms Mabley's case, with a little tweaking, we were able to highlight the fact that her last movie had two significant Sesame alumni heavily involved, and even Roosevelt Franklin's mom from records; not direct involvement, but I think it perked the page up enough. But if all that can be said is already said on Wikipedia, even with the reference, and there's nothing visual involved (I'm getting screengrabs of title reference captions from Disney+ for TMS, which helps), it's usually best to hold off. That's my take. -- Andrew Emoji-droolAdminsig 23:42, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
