I could swear that somebody was making a list of the most frequently appearing Sesame Street segments, but I can't find it anywhere on the Wiki, in the Sandbox, or on the Tough Pigs forum. --GrantHarding (talk) 15:52, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- I looked on the forum again and this time I found it! It was a post from you, in fact. You said "I was doing some checking earlier and it seems that "Ladybug's Picnic" is the most-aired Sesame insert*, appearing in 100 episodes between 1972 and 2001." How did you find this out? --GrantHarding (talk) 18:07, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- Using Special:MostLinkedFiles, going to the file itself, and then subtracting the non-episode pages from the "File usage" list. - Shane (talk) 18:19, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- Super cool, thank you! -GrantHarding (talk) 18:29, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- With this in mind, I've started Sandbox:Most aired Sesame Street segments. Whee! --GrantHarding (talk) 19:37, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was going to stop at 50 episodes. --GrantHarding (talk) 04:16, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- It's finished! People can feel free to get in and fiddle with it now. --GrantHarding (talk) 20:12, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- Impressive! I do think there should maybe be a bit more limits? Cause right now there are nearly 300 entries here. - Shane (talk) 20:20, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
How about subgroups, like most frequently aired animations, films, Muppet bits, songs, etc. ? -- Tony (talk) 20:45, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- I took a stab at making this page more readable, by splitting it into chunks: 100 episodes, 90-99 episodes, 80-89 episodes, etc. I think this is a really interesting page to have, especially since it's the kind of thing that wouldn't have been possible before the Wiki got access to all those episodes. --GrantHarding (talk) 15:24, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
- Some of the admins have been discussing this off-wiki. The sheer number is a bit overwhelming, and also at a glance, it's mostly animated and film inserts. So finding Muppet or even recurring character stuff is tricky.
- The subgroup suggestion might work, and maybe less exhaustive on the animated and live-action stuff. Say, a top 10/20 most frequent of any kind. Then next most frequent by type, and a Muppet or character section so, even if it's under 50, readers can find the most often aired Grover/Cookie/Kermit segment and so on, or at least a few of those. Since several of these are also pieces produced or directed by Jim Henson and in Category:Henson Films, that could be a subheader. For the more generic cartoon and film stuff though, I'm not sure if, even if it was 60 times, "kids in snow/sand" really is all that helpful. Especially since a lot of the reason these bits were repeated more would come down to issues such as length (shortest segments would get used a lot as filler). We haven't fully figured it out yet, and splitting did help, but maybe thinking more by type than simple numbers, and having the cut-off be higher or lower based on that type and how much emphasis we place on it on Muppet Wiki, may help. -- Andrew 20:34, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
