This photo has been cropping up in Getty, Alamy, and other stock photo sites, but none of them have a proper description and they all have the wrong date. The dress Piggy is wearing seems to have been common in the first couple years of The Muppet Show. She's wearing a festive brooch and it appears that there's a Christmas tree off to the side. There also seem to be some pigs wearing tuxedos in the background, although it's hard to tell exactly. I've been poking around trying to figure this out, but haven't had any luck yet. Any leads? Possibly additional photos from this appearance? —Scott (talk) 18:40, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- I think I've seen an alternate shot of this, and from what I recall that's J.P. Grosse and the Swedish Chef in the background. (That pink blotch is the Chef's tie.) It possibly has something to do with the Julie Andrews episode, as there are a few photos of her on The Muppet Show with some Christmas stuff, too. As for any definitive evidence, I don't have it, just the above connections. -- Tony (talk) 19:02, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- They're in the same set as the "Long, Long Ago" medley in Episode 221: Bob Hope. We know they shot alternate Christmas material for Episode 316: Danny Kaye. Maybe this replaced something in the UK version of Episode 217: Julie Andrews because that aired on Christmas? - Shane (talk) 19:07, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- The Panini Trading Stickers from 1979 includes this photo. -- BradFraggle (talk) 19:09, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- Ooh, nice. That photo is also the back inside cover for The Muppet Show Annual 1979. And good point about Episode 217: Julie Andrews airing on Christmas in the UK. Maybe, like Episode 316: Danny Kaye, they did something special. I checked newspaper listings and couldn't find anything, but I don't think that means much. Maybe we'll come across something like (YouTube) someday to confirm.
- In the meantime, these are great leads. Episode 221: Bob Hope and Episode 217: Julie Andrews were taped back-to-back, so it makes sense they'd use the set again. Question is if they taped this Christmas thing or if it was just for a photo series. —Scott (talk) 19:38, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- There's also this photo of a deleted scene that also feels somewhat Christmas-y. Perhaps they did special Christmas stuff during other seasons beyond just the bit for the Danny Kaye episode in season 3. -- BradFraggle (talk) 21:34, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
I've started collecting these at Sandbox:Muppet Show holiday miscellanea. —Scott (talk) 23:27, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
