Thanks to some newspaper digging by User:Muppeturgy, we have an opportunity to update the broadcast dates on List of The Muppet Show episodes. As currently cited, the dates for New York are cited for WCBS-TV from the Paley Center's database. I think these dates were also on an old version of Henson.com. Now that we're starting to pinpoint more accurate dates, we should start citing appropriately vice placing notes in the edit history.
Per Muppet Wiki:Sources, please make sure we're keeping track of where the dates are coming from. In the interest of conformity, we should probably cite each existing NY date with the Paley data. That way there's no question as to where the dates are coming from. —Scott (talk) 21:16, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- First post here, hope I'm doing it right (so much code!)... Adam from the Muppeturgy podcast here... We use the New York times as research for our episodes to get context, which is how I discovered the old Wiki dates are generally close but not actually right. (I assume the Paley dates came from somewhere but it's not NYC.) I didn't update our own Google Sheet during S1, but I can go back and get those. There was a newspaper strike during S3 so some of those weeks are missing, but can be guessed (if the existing Wiki date is the right week, just shift it to Monday).
- So far I've edited the S2 dates on List of The Muppet Show episodes. That doesn't update the episode pages themselves so more to come!
- @Scott How should I cite sources? Footnote down below?
- I love that you did your own research for the NY dates rather than rely on the Paley data used on the wiki. Definitely helps pinpoint more accurate info. There's an old conversation about TMS dates at Category talk:Muppet Show Episodes, and I'm sure elsewhere in the old forum system.
- As for how to cite, there's a guide on Muppet Wiki:Sources, so for this example it would be something like this: <ref>''The New York Times'' [https:url.com TV listings], Month Day, Year</ref>
- I'll add in a few on List of The Muppet Show episodes so you can see what it looks like in the edit window. —Scott (talk) 11:57, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks! Part of our whole thing is talking about what else was on TV that night so when I looked at that and TMS wasn't there, well... It wasn't that I *wanted* to do my own research so much...haha. I'll probably do another round of edits this weekend. --Muppeturgy (talk) 12:05, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
- Updated Season 4 on both the episode list and individual episode pages. Episode 417: Star Wars is locked for editing so I couldn't do that one. It's going to be a while before we get to Season 5 on the podcast. I'm happy to do it when I get to it, and also go back to S1, as long as folks don't mind waiting. :) Muppeturgy (talk) 19:10, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks! Done if you need to re-lock it again. Muppeturgy (talk) 19:18, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
- This web site - http://ctva.biz/UK/ITC/MuppetShow.htm - lists New York dates. How accurate are they? David French (talk) 10:54, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Based on the couple I checked at random, hit or miss! (Some are right, some are very wrong.) Muppeturgy (talk) 18:31, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
