Hi everyone! As you know, March is Women's History Month. This year the theme is "Embrace Equity". Equity means to treat everyone fairly, taking their unique barriers and disadvantages into account. This makes it different from equality, which means to treat everyone the same. Equity requires us to be fair and impartial and to shift from considering opportunities to committing to true equality through action.
Now that we're in the second half of the month, I wanted to bring this back to everyone's attention, since more initiatives will be posted on Community Central later this week!
As a reminder, per the general blog on March 1st (click here if you missed it), Fandom invites everyone to learn about embracing equity through the lens of women, femme-identifying and non-binary people building the “tables” in industries where they often do not have a seat. We're spotlighting the women who make things happen and uplift others as they forge their paths.
How are we doing that?
- With this specially curated 60 song playlist that focuses on intersectionality and thus mainly highlights women of color, LGBTQIA+ women, femme-identifying and non-binary artists, disabled women, and women of other minority groups making strides in music. Why? Cause only about 22% of the music industry is made up of women. Definitely check it out and let me know your favorite on the list!
- We highlighted women, femme-identifying and non-binary people gamers on Fandom's staff and throughout the community. Check out the blogs: 1, 2, and 3!
- Toward the end of the month, you'll find a game card style highlight of some of the best Scream Queens and Final Girls. Just for clarity, a "scream queen" is an actress who is prominent and influential in horror films, and a "final girl" refers to the last women alive to confront the killer/tell the story.
I'm curious to know what all of you have been up to thus far to highlight the women, femme-identifying and non-binary people in your community, so for sure let me know if there are initiatives you'd like Fandom to highlight!
If anyone has any questions or wishes to have a dialogue about Women's History Month and/or equity and equality, don't hesitate to reach out to me on the wiki or Discord or by reacting to this post. I'm always more than happy to discuss these important matters. Happy Women's History Month, everyone! Lady Lostris / SOAP 18:52, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

For SURE give it a listen and a like!
