Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment (formerly known as Vivendi Entertainment) is an entertainment distribution company, originally owned by Universal Music Group before being purchased by Gaiam in 2012. Despite this, the company is still headquartered in Universal City, California.
It briefly held North American home video rights to Sesame Workshop properties acquired from Genius Entertainment in 2009.[1] Warner Home Video took over North American home video rights to Sesame Workshop properties in 2010.[2]
On October 30, 2012, Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment secured a North American home entertainment deal with The Jim Henson Company that would begin in 2013. The multi-year deal would include new Fraggle Rock releases to memorate the show's 30th Anniversary, alongside other Henson properties. Gaiam Vivendi held exclusive physical media and digital rights in the United States, while solely holding digital rights in Canada.[3]
Shortly after the deal began, Cinedigm announced they would purchase Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment in October[4], with the deal closing soon after. Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment was folded soon afterwards, although Cinedigm continued releasing Henson material on DVD.
