George Stephanopoulos, left, with Ali Wentworth and Muppet friends

George Stephanopoulos (b. 1961) is a journalist, television personality, and former member of Bill Clinton's White House staff during the President's first term.

Since 2009, he has been a co-anchor on Good Morning America. In that capacity, he has occasionally interacted with the Muppets, asking Elmo for an autograph in 2010, while in 2014, Mr. Snuffleupagus expressed pleasure at finally meeting "my hero, George Stephanopoulos." They further joked about whether there was a family resemblance.

Stephanopoulos attended the Annual Sesame Workshop Benefit Gala in 2004 and 2011. For the 2013 Benefit Gala, he co-hosted with his wife, Ali Wentworth.

  • In The Muppets episode "A Tail of Two Piggies," ABC network president Lucy Royce states that George Stephanopoulos has lobbied for years to wear a crop top: "Nobody wants to see Greek belly." Piggy later mentions Stephanopoulos as one of the little people (along with Alynda) who are counting on her to show them it's okay to be themselves.
