Animated version
"Get Out and Stay Out" is a Sesame Street song originally written for the 1996 Sesame Street Fire Safety Station outreach kit. The song is included on the cassette of songs and stories as a part of the story "A Fire Drill, A Fire Drill." Oscar the Grouch sings the reggae-style song, with a backing chorus of children, about how to safely exit from a building where there is threat of a fire.
A new animated version of the song was produced by Misseri Studio for the 2002 home video Elmo Visits the Firehouse. In this version, The Big Bad Wolf (voiced by Jerry Nelson and in fireman's gear) sings about what you should do if there's a fire in your house as he saves the Three Little Pigs from their own fires. The song is re-arranged and re-orchestrated by Mike Renzi,[1] giving it a country-western sound. This segment later aired on the show in Episode 4145.
Notes[]
- In the 1996 resource book and its associated cassette, the song title is presented as "Get Out! Stay Out!" In song registries such as ASCAP and BMI, it is registered legally as "Get Out and Stay Out."[2][3] The newer version is registered separately as "Don't You Go Back In."[1]
