A giraffe is a mammal native to Africa known for their very long necks and legs. Giraffes are the tallest land animals on Earth, the tallest on record was 19.3 feet tall. They have a long black tongue that they use to wrap around leaves and pull them off trees.
Alexis the Giraffe appeared in episode 115 of The Animal Show. Two puppets were built: a rod version for when the head and neck are both in full view, and a hand puppet version for close-ups. Both puppets have since been recycled as a generic giraffe in other Muppet productions, without names, including Muppets from Space, Bear in the Big Blue House, and Sesame Street. A different giraffe puppet appeared as Georgie Giraffe on the Australian series Bambaloo.
Big Bird decides he would like a pet giraffe in the "Talk-to-Me" storybook I Wish I Had a Giraffe. According to Episode 1661, Oscar the Grouch keeps a pet giraffe in his trash can.
Big Bird read a poem about giraffes in episodes 0331 and 1783. Giraffes are featured in several live-action animal films (including "There's a Bird on Me") and animated inserts (including Thelma Thumb).
