Gloria Globe is an embodiment of the Earth in animated segments on Sesame Street. Designed primarily to teach geography, most segments opened with Gloria Globe attempting to pull a rabbit out of her hat, but instead yanking an animal indigenous to a specific country. She first appeared on the show in season 21.
One installment departed from the usual format, however. Instead of a cheerful magician, Gloria appears sick and ailing, because of pollution and damage to the planet. Only by taking better care of the Earth can Gloria become well again. Another segment featured Gloria trying to shoot herself out of a cannon, but when that failed, she proceeds to sing about her body parts, which correspond with various countries.
Martin P. Robinson voiced the announcer in her debut, with Sam A. Mowry taking over for subsequent segments.[1] Portland, Oregon based studio Animakers produced the segments and recorded the voices there.
