"Good Old Mountain Dew" is a folk song originally written by Bascom Lamar Lunsford in 1928, later adapted by Scotty Wiseman with new lyrics in 1935. The song was popularly covered by such artists as Grandpa Jones, Glen Campbell, and Willie Nelson.
Rowlf the Dog and Jimmy Dean performed the song together on The Jimmy Dean Show in an episode airing on January 15, 1966 taped at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Rowlf claims the song is from a rare recording by Grandpa Jones to Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra.
A recording of the song by Kenny Roberts had previously been utilized on Sam and Friends on February 8 and November 24, 1959.[1]
