Goodbye, Mr. Chips is a 1934 short novel by James Hilton, recounting the long life and career of schoolmaster Mr. Chipping at a boys' public boarding school. The book swiftly became a best-seller and has been regularly reprinted. The title became even more familiar from its film adaptations, first a 1939 drama and then a 1969 musical, while other adaptations have been done for radio and TV.
