Gordon Blue, a resident of Paris, France, appeared on the Sesame Street game show The Crying Game, hosted by Sonny Friendly. When introducing him, Sonny first calls him by his actual name (a pun on the French baked chicken dish, cordon bleu), but calls him Pierre for the rest of the sketch.

Sonny proceeds to tell Gordon a sad story regarding what would have happened if Gordon was having breakfast at his favorite bistro and ordered orange juice, cereal, and a croissant, but unfortunately they were sold out of croissants. The very thought causes Gordon to erupt in tears, remarking, "No croissant, How can be, Are we not civilized!?"
