Gramps is the fiddler from Lubbock Lou and his Jughuggers, all of whom debuted in The Muppet Show episode 208. He remained with the band in subsequent appearances. According to The Muppets Character Encyclopedia, he doesn't actually have any grandchildren and thinks the others are calling him "Cramps".
Gramps was occasionally seen apart from the band, and with different performers, such as in "Cigarettes and Whiskey" (playing a drunk) and "For What It's Worth" (as a hunter).
