Grandpa Jones on The Jimmy Dean Show
Grandpa Jones (1913-1998) was a banjo player and vocalist whose long country music career included stints with Grand Ole Opry and as a regular on Hee Haw. Adopting the old man moniker and persona while still in his twenties, his notable recordings included "It's Raining Here This Morning" and "Good Old Mountain Dew."
When Big Bird visited Hee Haw in 1981 (as the guest of honor at Slim's Bar-B-Q), Grandpa was briefly glimpsed among the Kornfield Kounty residents at the picnic tables swaying along during "Songs."
