Solace
PERFORMER various
DEBUT 1976

Six Green Gazelles made their only appearance in episode 101 of The Muppet Show, in which they danced with Juliet Prowse to Scott Joplin's "Solace."

The gazelles were performed in the Black Light Theater style, operated by puppeteers dressed completely in black against a black background so that they could move freely about the stage without being seen. One hand operated the head and the other operated the body, allowing the gazelles a greater degree of movement.

Although the gazelles are silent, each was likely performed by one of the six credited Muppeteers on the episode: Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Dave Goelz, Richard Hunt, John Lovelady, and Eren Ozker.

Three of the gazelles were also featured alongside Prowse in "The Muppet Show Theme" at the beginning of the episode.

The gazelles were featured in a routine set to Debussy's Clair de Lune at the World Puppetry Festival.
