Grizzy is a freckled Grouch child who appears in The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. After Huxley almost steals her favorite doll, Soggypants Sandy, Grizzy reluctantly agrees to help Elmo. The production notes for the film described Grizzy as a girl who "has the mind of a crabby Peppermint Patty and is trapped in the body of Shirley Temple." She also appeared in The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland: Sing and Play.
Tyco released a small talking plush Grizzy. The character was originally going to be named Grizzabella.[1] There was discussion of integrating Grizzy into the actual Sesame Street show proper following the film's production, but the show producers were informed that as the character was created for a movie and not the show, Columbia Pictures had an ownership stake in the character. [2] Grizzy was brought out of storage for a screening of the film at the Museum of the Moving Image in July 2019, where performer Stephanie D'Abruzzo revealed that the puppet has begun to deteriorate due to age.[3] As of 2024, the puppet had mostly fully deteriorated.[2]
