Grover Through the Years

The evolution of Grover.

	The Ed Sullivan Show (1967)	A character called "Gleep" makes an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, as one of the monster crooks in a Christmas sketch with Arthur Godfrey. Gleep has a small red nose, greenish-brown fur, and malignantly-angled eyes. According to Joe Mathieu his head was made from a plastic bowling ball sawed in two.
	The Muppets on Puppets (1968)	One of the puppet's brief appearances in The Muppets on Puppets, as the middle head of the Rock and Roll Monster.
	Sesame Street Season 1 (1969-1970)	In the first season of Sesame Street, the puppet appears as an unnamed character for most of his initial appearances (Kermit refers to him in dialogue as both "fuzzy-face" and "the hairy one"). In Episode 0125, he receives the name "Grover." (see Proto-Grover for more details) His voice and behavior is slightly more abrasive than the Grover known today, but he tries to be helpful. The colors of his fur and nose have faintly paled with age. Partway through the season, his red nose is replaced with an orange one. A few years later, the puppet would be used in one sketch as Grover's Mommy.
	Sesame Street Season 2 (1970-1974)	Grover made an appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in May 1970 debuting a new design; gaining his familiar blue fur, a pink nose, reangled friendlier-looking eyes, and a rounder lower jaw. This design carries through to his next appearance, in the premiere episode of Sesame Street's second season.
	Sesame Street Season 6 (1974-1976)	This Grover puppet is proportionally larger; he has noticeably larger hands and a taller, rounder head. His eyes are slightly more tilted, with bigger pupils. Also, Grover's arms are placed lower to his body, revealing his shoulders.
	Sesame Street (1976-2003)	Through different puppet builds during this period, Grover's design is basically the same, with some minor alterations in eye placement, head shape, and the size of his nose and pupils. His fur is often groomed, combed and matted down more. By the 1980s, Grover is rebuilt with armatured hands.
	Jimmy Kimmel Live (2004-present)	Grover's current design bears resemblance to the 1974-1976 puppet, with his fur becoming slightly shaggier, as well as a brighter shade of blue, and his eyes further slanted. In 2013, a variation of this version was made, with looser fingers akin to his early 1970s build. This change was made at the suggestion of Eric Jacobson.
