Ben Browder and James Gunn "chatting Farscape"[1]
Guardians of the Galaxy is a team of superheroes that have appeared in a number of different forms since 1969 in Marvel Comics. Their popularity skyrocketed in 2014 upon the release of their first feature film as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film spawned several sequels, cartoons, merchandise, and theme park attractions.
Muppet Mentions[]
- Director James Gunn has repeatedly credited Farscape as a major influence on his Guardians of the Galaxy films. In a 2016 tweet, Gunn said, "Of all TV shows, Farscape was the one that influenced [Guardians] the most."[2] Gunn later said in a 2020 tweet, "People are always bringing up a million films asking me if they're inspirations. Usually the answer is no. In the case of #Farscape it is most definitely YES."[3] Farscape star Ben Browder made a cameo appearance in the 2017 film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, directed by Gunn.

- During an August 2014 MTV interview, Kermit the Frog talks about having seen Guardians of the Galaxy and invites Rocket Raccoon to join the Muppets if things don't work out.
- Kermit the Frog appeared in a September 10, 2014 episode of Mashable's "Monumental" series to share some of his favorite summer movies. His first pick goes to Guardians of the Galaxy because Gamora (an alien with green skin) "is hoooot; she makes it easy to be green." He also references Groot as a likeable, walking houseplant, mentioning that he's worked with talking trees before and they're very trustworthy.
- During a Q&A at Topps DigiCon 2022, Kermit is asked which Marvel character he most identifies with. At first, he supposes the Incredible Hulk because they're both green, then claims he's closer to Peter "Star Lord" Quill of Guardians of the Galaxy because he's had experience with "talking trees and raccoons with an attitude."
