A series of animated segments featuring a short, bearded guru that would teach various opposites and relational concepts first appeared on Sesame Street in the 1970s, debuting in Season 6. In each segment, a tall, slow-witted traveler (voiced by Bob Arbogast) would climb up the vast cliff in order to reach the elderly guru (voiced by Gene Moss) at his cave home. In true Sesame Street fashion, the guru would usually demonstrate concepts in a humorous or outlandish way, such as tossing his valuables off the cliff or dropping heavy objects onto his own feet.
The series continued to appear on the show until Season 28.
