The Muppet Show guest star
episode 517
Hallinden

Hal Linden (b. 1931) is a stage and television actor best known for playing the title role on the police sitcom Barney Miller. Linden guest starred on The Muppet Show episode 517.

Linden's Muppet Show appearance drew on his experience in Broadway musicals, where he took over the male lead during the 1950s run of Bells Are Ringing (with Jean Stapleton, and taking a smaller role in the film version) and had a supporting role while understudying Tom Bosley in the shorter-lived The Education of H*Y*M*A*N K*A*P*L*A*N. He won a Tony Award in 1971 for starring as Meyer Rothschild in The Rothschilds.

After achieving TV fame on Barney Miller, Linden headlined a few shorter-lived series and guest starred on The Nanny, The Drew Carey Show, Will & Grace, Touched by an Angel, Supernatural, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Early in his career, Linden was part of the unofficial New York City dubbing troupe heard in Spaghetti Westerns, a Godzilla entry, and the French film Z.
