Haneen is a cheerful Palestinian Muppet from the Israeli-Palestinian co-production Rechov Sumsum/Shara'a Simsim and the new solo Palestinian version Hikayat Simsim. She is a vivacious five-year-old who is learning how to count, read, and write. In contrast to the stereotypes and old cultural expectations of passive Arab females, Haneen believes she can do anything, even when she occasionally stumbles. Her motto is, “I can, I can!” Haneen is active and inquisitive, enjoys playing soccer, and occasionally pretends to be a superhero, "Super Haneen." In the earlier series, she gradually became friends with the Israeli Muppet Dafi, and later, with Kareem the rooster.
A Haneen walkaround first appeared in 2008.
Sesame Workshop description[]
Haneen is a vivacious five-year-old who is learning how to count, read, and write. Anything she can’t do, she pretends that she can. Her motto is, “I can, I can!” Haneen is an empowered girl who is smart and creative. Her approach to things can be untraditional and chaotic. She likes to dress up (especially as “Super Haneen”), and she loves soccer. Haneen is spontaneous, energetic, and definitely enjoys the limelight.
