Harry Kalenberg on Tatort

Harry Kalenberg on Tatort

Harry Kalenberg (1921-1993) was an Austrian-German actor who dubbed the gentleman in the park in Der Grosse Muppet Krimi (The Great Muppet Caper) and Ed Koch in Die Muppets Erobern Manhattan (The Muppets Take Manhattan). He was heard as minor characters on Die Muppet Show (The Muppet Show), most often one of the pigs, and Large Marvin Fraggle in "Manny's Land of Carpets" on Die Fraggles (Fraggle Rock).

Kalenberg trained as an actor in Vienna and subsequently performed on the German stage, television, and radio (recurring as Inspector Lestrade in the 1960s adaptations of the BBC Sherlock Holmes). Often cast in historical or period productions in the 1970s, he played Oberstgeneral Fromm in Operation Walküre (about the military plot to kill Hitler) and appeared as aristocrats or military leaders in Wallenstein (set in the 16th century) and Die merkwürdige Lebensgeschichte des Friedrich Freiherrn von der Trenck (18th century). He was a frequent guest star on Tatort, appearing seven times in parts ranging from chief of the harbor police to prosecutor. Kalenberg acted in international co-produced films like Ingmar Bergman's The Serpent's Egg (as the medical examiner) and Before Winter Comes (with John Hurt, as a policeman).

As a Munich-based voice actor, he was part of Eberhard Storeck's stock company, heard in the dubs of Maya the Bee, Pinocchio, Vicky the Viking, and Bugs Bunny cartoons. He dubbed Richard Todd in The Big Sleep, Michael Hordern in Danny, the Champion of the World, Geoffrey Keen in Moonraker, parts in Laurel and Hardy comedies, and various recurring and guest generals on I Dream of Jeannie (including the 1991 reunion movie). One of his last assignments was dubbing guest star Tony Jay on Eerie, Indiana.
