Helen Hayes co-written Twice Over Lightly at far right

Helen Hayes (1900-1993) was an actress who gained fame from her leading roles on the American stage, as well as intermittent films and later television work. Her stage work dated to childhood and ranged from Shakespeare and Booth Tarkington's Penrod to playing the titular queens in the 1930s plays Mary of Scotland and Victoria Regina. She made her sound film debut in 1931's The Sin of Madeline Claudot, winning the Academy Award for Best Actress, and would win Best Supporting Actress decades later for Airport.

On TV, in addition to various televised plays, Hayes starred as half of The Snoop Sisters (alternating with Columbo and others) and in three Agatha Christie TV movies (twice as Miss Marple). With screenwriter Anita Loos, she co-authored the 1972 book Twice Over Lightly: New York Then and Now, mixing accounts from New Yorkers with the authors' own recollections.
