Herbie the One-Octopus Band performs in The Muppet Show episode 411. Herbie performs "When the Saints Go Marching In" off-screen as Miss Piggy has a frustrating conversation with Gonzo backstage. At the end of their conversation, Herbie walks by, and Piggy karate chops him in a fit of pique.
Herbie made a cameo during the "Rainbow Connection" finale of The Muppet Movie.
The same octopus puppet was reused for the cover of The Sesame Street Treasury Volume 9, and was referred to in the inside feature as Octavia Octopus, Ernie's swimming teacher.
