"Hey a Movie!" is the opening number from The Great Muppet Caper. It takes place in a busy street where Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo change into their reporter gear and try to find a good cover story for The Daily Chronicle. But when Gonzo decides to take a picture of a chicken, the trio miss Nicky Holiday stealing Lady Holiday's diamonds. Several car accidents and other catastrophes later, the reporters still remain blissfully unaware. Also in this sequence, Sweetums falls down a manhole and gets his hand stepped on by Nicky, a group of monsters take over a truck that they were caged in, and Richard Hunt makes an on-screen cameo as a taxi driver (with Kathryn Mullen as his passenger).
The song was reprised during the end credits by the Muppets as they parachuted down from an airplane. The shot where Muppets are shown being thrown out of the plane was the last thing shot for the movie.[1] The Muppets also sang "Hey a Movie!" at the start of The Muppets Go to the Movies, and in Muppets on Location: Days of Swine and Roses. An instrumental version of this song was also used as the theme for initial episodes of Statler & Waldorf: From the Balcony.
A variation of the song was performed by the Muppets at the beginning of the 90th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2016.
In an early draft of the script, the song is referred to instead as "We're Gonna Be a Movie."[2]
