"I'm Going to Go Back There Someday" is an original song written for The Muppet Movie. The Muppets get stranded in the desert, and as night falls they sit around a campfire. Gonzo recalls his experience flying and expresses his longing to return to the sky in song.
An orchestral arrangement of the song appears earlier in the movie during Gonzo's balloon flying sequence, heard briefly in the accompanying score during the scene.
In 1990, Dave Goelz performed the song with piano on stage at Jim Henson's Memorial.
Gonzo re-recorded the song for Muppets from Space. Although the song is not heard in the movie, it is included in the soundtrack.
In The Muppet Show Live, Gonzo performed the song with backup by Paul Williams and Kermit the Frog.
In 2005, Gonzo and Paul Williams recorded a version of this song for the dualdisc set I'm Going Back There Someday.
In 2011, Rachael Yamagata performed the song on The Green Album.
Gonzo performed the song at the 2016 Puppets for Puppetry benefit with Ray Toro of My Chemical Romance, Rowlf the Dog, Red Fraggle, puppets from the Emmet Otter stage show, and several of the Henson Company's Miskreant Puppets.
