"I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter" is an American standard, popularly recorded by Fats Waller. The song has also been recorded by such artists as Frank Sinatra, Cleo Laine and Paul McCartney.
The original recorded by Waller was used in a season 29 insert for Sesame Street, where some children act out a story as the tune plays.

- The opening to the 1973 special Keep Us Beautiful features the guests singing brief snippets of popular songs, with an ecological twist. One of Kermit the Frog's verses includes, "I'm gonna sit right down and promise not to litter."
- The cover for the 1974 Sesame Street album Letters ...and Numbers, Too! includes a reference to the song, with its title preceded by the caption "I'm gonna sit right down and write myself some".
- The song was spoofed on Sesame Street by Telly Monster as "Grouchy Book."
