"I Get a Kick Out of U" is a Sesame Street song about the letter U performed by Ethel Mermaid, a fishy spoof of Ethel Merman. The song itself is a parody of the Cole Porter-penned classic "I Get a Kick Out of You."
In the song, Ethel sings about how none of the other letters in the alphabet give her more joy than the letter U, backed up by a school of fish. A shark gets too close to her while she sings and is continuously smacked away by her tail.
Notes[]
- Performers include Martin P. Robinson (the announcer), David Rudman (a fish) and Kevin Clash (the shark).
- For Episode 3595, a new stereo mix replaces the original audio. The biggest difference is that the fishes' chorus is quieted down and Ethel's warbling of "U" is raised up.
