The Indianapolis 500, or Indianapolis 500-Mile Race as it is formally known, is an American automobile race held annually over the Memorial Day weekend in Speedway, Indiana. Begun in 1911 and known as "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", it is one of the oldest motorsport events and is attended by nearly 400,000 people annually, making it the largest single-day sporting event in the world.

- In Episode 0714 of Sesame Street, Oscar loudly plays various noises on his tape recorder, including racecars speeding by at the Indy 500.
- In a 1977 episode of Sesame Street, Grover pretends to drive Gordon's car. He imagines driving in the Indianapolis 500, the Grand Canyon, and to downtown Cucamonga.
