Indigo is a bluebird who is feeling blue. Big Bird figures he can cheer him up by shouting "Seventy-Six Trombones" in his face, until Bob suggests something more soothing and sings "Sing, Little Bluebird." With a little help, Indigo begins to chirp along but never speaks.
The puppet was mostly used as a background extra, often appearing with other birds for musical numbers. It appears prominently in the Love the Earth! video as the Blue-Feathered Swallowing Swallow. The puppet appeared in Episode 2532 performed by Kevin Clash. In Episode 2670, Jim Martin performs him as the very demanding "Blue Tufted Fluter-Tooter."
