Inspired! Jim Henson at Maryland is an exhibit at the University of Maryland's Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library running from June 7, 2019 to May 26, 2020 celebrating the works of UMD alum Jim Henson.
The exhibit features twenty-five pieces of original art created by Henson who attended the university from 1954 to 1960. The collection consists of posters for theatrical events, photographs, sketchbooks, student projects, and various press clippings from the era. Included among them are Hilarity, Melancholy, and Conceit, a trio of silkscreen prints depicting three facets of the human psyche as seen by Henson. The wall fixtures are also accompanied by a video loop of Henson's projects developed during his college years.
The pieces in the exhibit have been curated by Vincent Novara with assistance from Henson Company archivist Karen Falk.
