International crossover merchandise[]
In the 1970s and 1980s, for budgetary reasons, a few of the co-productions used the same merchandise. It was never explained to the consumers where the foreign characters came from or why they never appeared on the respective shows. Examples of crossover media include:
- All the comics for the Sesamstraat and Sesamstrasse magazines were the same, featuring characters from both shows interacting, but written in the countries' respective languages. The French 1, Rue Sésame Mensuel also used these comics.
- The board game Promenade Rue Sesame, sold in both France and Germany, featured figures from 1, Rue Sésame and Sesamstrasse.
Notes[]
- Occasionally, original material made for international co-productions makes its way to airing on other co-productions, dubbed in the local language. Examples include select Muppet pieces from Sesame Park (featuring characters like Basil and Katie) dubbed into Spanish for Plaza Sésamo or the German "Ernie & Bert Märchensongs" (with characters such as Finchen) appearing on the Sesamstraat mini-series 10 voor.
