Jack Webb (1920-1982) was an actor, writer, director, and producer best known for his work on Dragnet, which he created in addition to starring as Sgt. Joe Friday. He went on to co-create Adam-12 and Emergency!
Webb worked steadily in radio prior to Dragnet and had supporting roles in films, including Sunset Boulevard. However, Dragnet, especially the later color episodes, would forever type him as the deadpan, staccato speaking Friday.
