Jocksoto

Jock Soto and Zoe

Jock Soto is a ballet dancer formerly attached to the New York City Ballet from 1981 until 2005. He appeared in several Sesame Street inserts in the 1990s, usually paired with Lourdes López.

During his time as principal dancer for the New York City Ballet, Soto performed such roles as Siegfried (and later Rothbart) in Swan Lake, the Baron in La Sonnambula, Bernardo in West Side Story Suite, El Capitan in Stars and Stripes, and the male leads in Christopher Wheedon's short ballet After the Rain and Peter Martins' Tala Gaisma, roles created for Soto. In 2007, he returned to the company for a rare guest appearance as Lord Capulet in Romeo and Juliet and was the subject of the documentary Water Flowing Together. He currently teaches at the School of American Ballet.
