Joe Biden (b. 1942) is the 46th President of the United States. He previously served as the 47th Vice President of the United States under President Barack Obama, and as a United States Senator from Delaware.
Biden, along with his wife Jill, were honored in 2010 at the 8th Sesame Workshop Benefit Gala. The Bidens met some of the most famous characters from Sesame Street, including Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Rosita, Cookie Monster, Zoe, and Super Grover. The gala also marked the 30th anniversary of Sesame Place, leading Biden to sing an impromptu rendition of "Happy Birthday" for the park's social media.
In 2019, Biden commented on Sesame Workshop's Sesame Street in Communities initiative dealing with addiction and substance abuse, stating: "It is wonderful to see Sesame Street raising awareness about the effect of substance use disorder on families. We need to be doing more to help parents experiencing addiction and support children who end up in foster care because of this issue."[1]
On November 7, 2021, a statement from Biden's official @POTUS Twitter account congratulated Big Bird on getting his COVID-19 vaccination.[2]
In January 2024, President Biden posted to the official @POTUS X account in response to Elmo's emotional well-being post stating: "I know how hard it is some days to sweep the clouds away and get to sunnier days. Our friend Elmo is right: We have to be there for each other, offer our help to a neighbor in need, and above all else, ask for help when we need it. Even though it's hard, you're never alone."[3]
